The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Kano State branch, Comrade Ibrahim Muhammad, has urged local government workers across the state to redouble their efforts by reporting to work on time and showing greater dedication to duty.
He made the call during a visit to the Bichi Local Government Secretariat, where he emphasized the importance of punctuality and discouraging the habit of leaving office during working hours.
According to him, the visit was aimed at boosting morale and encouraging commitment to improve government service delivery.
The NULGE Chairman commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for prioritizing staff welfare since assuming office. He noted that the governor has addressed long-standing concerns, including prompt salary payments, settlement of entitlements, and an increase in minimum pensions to ₦20,000.
“Out of the funds he inherited, Governor Yusuf paid ₦22 billion in pensions and gratuities. This is a remarkable achievement,” Muhammad said.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Bichi Local Government, Alhaji Hamza Sule Mai Fata, represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Alhaji Abba Muhammad Diso, thanked NULGE executives for their visit. He assured that the council is working hard to meet its obligations, adding that the issues of salaries and allowances for village and ward heads would soon be resolved.
“At present, the names of 125 of them have been forwarded to the Ministry of Local Government for inclusion in the payroll. The Chairman also discussed the matter with the Governor, who directed that it be properly documented,” he stated.
Similarly, the Secretary of the council, Alhaji Anas Muhammad Abdullahi, disclosed that the local government had already addressed most workers’ concerns. He further commended the Kano State Government and the Mortgage Bank for initiating the construction of 50 housing units for workers on loan.
“We thank His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for enrolling Kano workers into the national mortgage bank scheme. By Allah’s grace, 50 housing units are already underway in Bichi Local Government,” Abdullahi added.
