Int’l Peace Day: Gov Sani Conferred Peace Champion, Unity in Diversity Award by Global Foundation

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

The Global Peace Foundation Nigeria has conferred the Peace Champion of Unity in Diversity Award on Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

The award was presented during the International Peace Day celebration held at Arewa House, Kaduna.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Country Director of the foundation, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the recognition was in appreciation of Governor Sani’s strides in building peace, dousing tensions, and fostering unity across the state.

He described International Peace Day as a moment when the world reflects on the values of harmony, dialogue, and unity. According to him, this year’s celebration was significant for Kaduna because it honored a leader whose inclusive governance and passion for justice had transformed the state.

Hayab noted that since March 2023, the governor’s policies had eased ethnic tensions, reduced insecurity, and encouraged reconciliation through fairness, justice, and inclusiveness.

“By giving every group, faith, and community a voice at the table of governance, he healed wounds and bridged divides that once threatened our collective progress,” he said.

He added that Sani’s leadership aligns with the foundation’s vision of One Family Under God. The award, he stressed, was a testament to the governor’s legacy of prioritizing peace, inclusivity, and justice over conflict and marginalization.

Responding on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Suleiman Shuaibu, said Kaduna had faced challenges of diversity, competing interests, and scars of past conflicts. He explained that instead of division, the state had embraced dialogue, collaboration, and reconciliation through the Kaduna Peace Model.

The commissioner said the model places communities at the center of peacebuilding, anchored on inclusiveness, justice, and shared responsibility, while engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women, civil society, and development partners.

“Together, we are weaving a new narrative for Kaduna State—one of tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
