Masari to corps members: Consider National unity sacrosanct

Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State says the issue of national unity must be upheld with sincerity of faith because no society could achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere devoid of peace and unity.

Masari stated this on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the 2019 NYSC batch C Stream two corps members deployed to Katsina State.

“As we are transiting to a new level, I implore you to continue to demonstrate the noble ideals of the NYSC scheme wherever you find yourself.

“Do not allow your personal or sectional interest to override the interest of the nation.

“The issue of national unity must be upheld with sincere faith because no society can achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere devoid of peace and unity.

“I therefore urged you to be in the vanguard for the promotion of unity, peace and understanding among Nigerians,” he said.

The governor further urged the corps members to actively interact with members of their host communities to learn their culture, seek ways of improving the lives of the poor and vulnerable.

Masari also urged corps members to shun corruption, indiscipline, and affirm the deals of respect during the national service as a positive instrument for youth development.

He said that the NYSC would post corps members to four key areas of the economy which were: education, health, agriculture and rural infrastructure.

Masari also urged NYSC employers not to reject the corps members deployed to their respective organisations.

“The situation of unchecked rejection of corps members by employers negates the spirit and objectives of the NYSC scheme’’, he said.

In his remarks, the state coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya said that the corps members were fully trained and prepared for their primary assignments.

He urged employers of labour to accept corps members posted to them and give them the opportunity to contribute their quota to national development.

The coordinator warned corps members against truancy, absenteeism and  traveling without permission, pointing out that such acts were unethical to the aims and objectives of the scheme. (NAN)
