Chelle Hails Super Eagles’ 4–0 Win, Warns Against Complacency

Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique, describing the result as a strong statement of intent at the ongoing tournament.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria delivered a dominant display in Fès on Monday, overwhelming Mozambique with a performance marked by clarity, urgency and ruthless execution.

Victor Osimhen, making his 50th appearance for the senior national team, scored twice, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams were also on target as the Super Eagles sealed qualification for the quarter-finals of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“I am happy about this game. It is an important victory, and scoring four goals shows our intention,” Chelle told reporters after the match.

While commending his players for their impressive showing, the coach cautioned against complacency, stressing that the team must remain focused.

“I am very proud of my players. They played very well, but this is just one game,” he said.

Chelle also outlined the team’s next steps, confirming plans to travel to Marrakech on Wednesday ahead of their quarter-final clash.

“We will leave for Marrakech on Wednesday to prepare for a big game against either Algeria or DR Congo,” he stated.

The coach emphasised the importance of maintaining momentum as Nigeria aims for further progress in the competition.

“My responsibility is to remain ambitious, continue training hard, and keep the intensity and aggressiveness of the team,” he said.

He warned against overconfidence, noting that success can quickly breed distraction if not properly managed.

“We have done nothing extraordinary. We have only won one match, and we must keep improving,” Chelle added.

On team discipline and unity, Chelle maintained that internal issues would be handled privately.

“What happens on the pitch stays within the group. My focus is to keep the players fully concentrated,” he said.

NAN reports that Nigeria’s convincing win secured a place in the quarter-finals, where the Super Eagles will face the winner of the Algeria versus DR Congo encounter in Marrakech on Saturday.
