The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for what it described as significant economic and social progress recorded under his administration.The Chairman of CIBN, Prof. Pius Olarenwaju, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to Governor Otti at the Government House, noting measurable improvements in key economic indicators.
According to Prof. Olarenwaju, Abia State has recorded a 10 per cent increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an eight per cent reduction in poverty levels, the attraction of new investments, and the creation of over 10,000 jobs within a relatively short period.
He said the Institute was impressed not only by reports in the media but by what its delegation observed on the ground, describing the achievements as evidence of effective economic management.The CIBN chairman also praised improvements in the social sector, citing strengthened healthcare delivery, reduced mortality rates, the introduction of health insurance schemes, and enhanced education infrastructure, including free education policies.In addition, he commended ongoing road construction and infrastructure projects across the state, describing them as indicators of purposeful governance.
Prof. Olarenwaju further acknowledged the impact of the state’s Operation Crush security initiative, which he said has improved safety, boosted youth confidence, and supported economic activities. Governor Otti, in his response, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustainable economic growth, improved welfare, and transparent governance in Abia State.
