Kaduna AG Urges Christians to Engage in Politics Ahead of 2027 Elections

By Francis Wilfred

Kaduna State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir James A. Kanyip, KSM, PhD, has called on Christians across Nigeria to actively participate in politics, emphasizing that their involvement is vital for promoting good governance.Kanyip made the appeal during the third edition of the Joint All Catholic Church Knights Summit (JACKS) in Abuja, which brought together Catholic priests, church leaders, and dignitaries from across the country.

He stressed that political engagement is necessary to effect change from within. “If people who are ‘clean’ do not get involved in politics, it cannot be clean. We cannot appreciate or change the system from the outside,” Kanyip said. He added that Christians should exercise their right to shape leadership that respects all faiths and rewards merit.

Highlighting the upcoming 2027 general elections, Kanyip urged Christians, particularly Catholic Knights, to register as voters, participate in elections, and support credible leaders. He also encouraged professionals to contribute their expertise through advisory roles and mentoring younger generations.

Speaking at the summit, Sir Dan Avery noted that Catholic Knights serve as agents for civic education, mobilizing voters and promoting unity in political engagement. “It is stronger when we speak with one voice as Knights, ensuring our message reaches more people and influences positive outcomes,” he said.

Both speakers emphasized that Christians should act as a moral compass for the nation, using their influence to advocate for justice, unity, and accountable leadership.
