The 15th Biennial Nigeria Police Games (BIPOGA) came to an exciting end in Asaba with the Federal Headquarters (FHQ) emerging as overall champions after a fierce medal contest that went down to the wire.
Nigeria Police Force athletes representing the Federal Headquarters clinched first position with a total of 243 medals, narrowly defeating Lagos Command, which finished second with 246 medals.
Zone 9 Umuahia secured third place with 93 medals, rounding off the top three at the highly competitive sporting event.
The week-long Games, hosted by the Delta State Government, were held at the popular Stephen Keshi Stadium and other venues across the state.
The competition brought together police athletes from commands and formations nationwide to compete in a wide range of sporting activities.
Events featured at BIPOGA Asaba 2026 included athletics, shooting, swimming, table tennis, boxing and several other sports, all designed to test strength, endurance, skill and teamwork among officers of the Force.
The close medal tally between FHQ and Lagos highlighted the intensity of the competition, as both teams battled strongly in multiple events before FHQ eventually secured a slim two-medal advantage to claim the coveted overall trophy.
The closing ceremony was attended by top government officials and senior police officers.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, congratulated the winning teams and praised all participants for demonstrating discipline, courage and sportsmanship throughout the Games.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended Delta State for successfully hosting the 2026 edition and described the Games as a platform that promotes physical fitness, unity and excellence within the Force.
Chairman of the Force Sports Planning Committee, AIG Fom Pam Joseph, noted that the Asaba 2026 edition would remain memorable in the history of the Police Force, not only because of the impressive performances but also due to the high level of organisation and hospitality provided by the host state.
With FHQ crowned champions, Lagos finishing a close second and Yenagoa placing third, the 15th Biennial Police Games ended on a high note, reinforcing the spirit of healthy competition, teamwork and national unity within the Nigeria Police Force.
