Real Madrid C.F. Ready to Spend £87m on Adam Wharton Amid Manchester United F.C. Interest

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to make a major financial push to sign Adam Wharton this summer, despite strong interest from Manchester United.

The Crystal Palace midfielder is said to be among a four-man shortlist being considered by United as they aim to reinforce their midfield options ahead of next season. The club is understood to be targeting at least one or two additions in that area.

Wharton, formerly of Blackburn Rovers, impressed last campaign as Palace secured FA Cup success and a 12th-place finish in the Premier League. However, recent months at Selhurst Park have been unsettled, with several players expected to depart and manager Oliver Glasner confirming he will leave the club.

Reflecting on the situation, Glasner admitted that uncertainty has affected the squad, noting that some players are already thinking about their future rather than their present commitments.

Madrid Enter the Race

Reports from Spain claim Real Madrid are now willing to offer €100 million (£87 million) to secure Wharton’s services. The interest is believed to be serious, with sources suggesting the midfielder had previously been requested by Xabi Alonso, though the club opted not to proceed at the time.

With concerns over depth and creativity in Madrid’s midfield, officials at the Santiago Bernabéu are said to view Wharton as a long-term playmaker solution worth the significant investment.

Should Madrid formalise their pursuit, it could deal a major blow to Manchester United’s summer transfer plans and intensify competition for one of the Premier League’s most highly rated young midfielders.
