AFAN Hosts EU, AU Delegation in Abuja to Discuss Mycotoxin Risks

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has hosted a delegation from the European Union (EU) and African Union (AU) at its national headquarters in Abuja to discuss the dangers of mycotoxins and their impact on agriculture.

According to a statement from the office of AFAN National President, Mohammed Magaji Gettado, the delegation of about 25 representatives visited the association on a fact-finding mission focused on raising awareness and strengthening collaboration on mycotoxin control.

Mycotoxins are toxic substances produced by certain fungi that contaminate crops and pose risks to food safety, public health and agricultural trade. The statement said the engagement forms part of ongoing efforts between AFAN, the AU and the EU to promote safer agricultural practices and reduce post-harvest losses among Nigerian farmers.

Gettado said his administration remains committed to ensuring that farming in Nigeria remains profitable despite global agricultural challenges. He added that AFAN would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening agricultural development and improving farmers’ access to safe and sustainable agribusiness opportunities.

He noted that collaboration with international partners is essential to boosting productivity, safeguarding food quality and enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural competitiveness.
