A youth group in Nasarawa State has called on retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Mailafiya Yakubu Agabi to contest for the State House of Assembly seat representing Obi I Constituency.
The group, Daddare Progressive Minded Youth, made the appeal in a statement issued in Lafia, urging the former police officer to respond to what it described as growing support for his candidacy. According to the statement signed by its president, Aminu Musa Relwanu, the call followed consultations with youths, community stakeholders and opinion leaders across the constituency.
Relwanu said the group believes Agabi’s background in law enforcement and diplomacy could contribute to addressing local challenges, including insecurity and development needs. He added that the appeal reflects increasing interest among young people in participating in political processes and supporting candidates they consider credible.
The group also urged residents, traditional leaders and other stakeholders in Obi I Constituency to support the initiative, emphasising the need for collective engagement in shaping local representation. Agabi has not publicly responded to the call at the time of reporting.
