By Joyce Remi- Babayeju

A former FCDA Senior Special Assistant on Development Control and Planning. Tpl.Mukhtar Usman Galadima, has stated that the Wukari / Junku Nwonyo fishing festival expressed strong optimism about the future of the Nwonyo Fishing Festival as a potential valuable cultural heritage that could evolve into a major tourism hub.

Galadima, an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, stated this during an interaction session with journalists in Wukari, adding that the festival continues to gain prominence and greater recognition in the coming years.

According to him, Nwonyo Fishing Festival has a rich history and remains a significant cultural event for the Wukari people.

Nwonyo Lake—one of the longest in the region—offers a serene and suitable environment that can be turned into a tourism hub and development, he noted.

Galadima also expressed satisfaction with the organization of this year’s edition of the festival, commending stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring its success.

Speaking on the Jukun Youth Day, he urged young people to engage more in organizing similar cultural events annually, emphasizing that such initiatives would help showcase their heritage to a broader audience and promote cultural preservation.
