Shi Jin Quarry, located in Dagarma, Zaura Village, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents in its host communities through improved safety measures around its operations.
This follows concerns raised by some residents over dust pollution and the loud sounds from blasting activities associated with quarry operations.
During a visit to the site on Monday, some community members expressed worries about stone dust affecting their environment and the impact of explosive sounds on nearby settlements. They stressed that quarry operations, especially in remote areas, require strict and regular safety precautions to safeguard public health and safety.
Responding to the concerns, the Site Manager of Shi Jin Quarry, Mr. Sani Muktar, said the company has already put in place strong measures to ensure the environment remains safe and free from harmful effects.
He stated that the management would never allow its operations to endanger the host communities and would continue to apply all necessary safety measures to control any hazards linked to quarry activities.
“We are doing our best to make sure that there is no harm to the people and properties across the surrounding communities. We also thank the people of Dagarma, Zaura, Juji, Qirya Daurawa, Tattarawa, Dakatsalle, and Biwanya for being friendly to the factory,” he said.
Muktar added that Shi Jin Quarry operates an open-door policy that allows residents to raise concerns, seek clarification, and maintain a healthy relationship with the company.
In separate remarks, residents of Juji community, which is closest to the quarry site, Malam Adamu Babangida and Yunusa Baushe acknowledged that the community initially faced challenges from dust and the noise of blasting activities.
However, they said the company has made noticeable efforts to reduce the impact and improve safety standards.
“At first, we experienced serious dust and the loud sounds from explosives, but the quarry management has tried its best to ensure safety measures are in place to protect our communities,” they said.
They added that Shi Jin Quarry has shown commitment to ensuring residents remain safe and protected from operational hazards and other accidental risks associated with quarry activities.
