A’Ibom CP debunks allegations of bias against PDP

By Emeka Samuel

Following calls for his redeployment by the PDP in Akwa Ibom, newly posted state police Commissioner Mr Musa Kimo has restated his stand that he remained apolitical and would be fair to all in the discharge of his duties in the state.

Kimo told newsmen on Wednesday in Uyo that he is desirous of peace in the state and would try his best to sustain the prevailing peace in the area by ensuring that the rule of law is maintained while criminal elements in the society are flushed out.

The commissioner regretted that most politicians in the country are yet to learn how to play politics of peace calling on them to always promote the interest of the people while they go about their politics.

On recent crisis in the state assembly he said that the police in the state has not received any directive preventing any lawmaker from accessing the House of Assembly adding that he had earlier called for a meeting of all lawmakers in his desire to ensure that the lingering crisis in the assembly is brought to an end.

He explained that the presence of policemen deployed outside the premises of the assembly was for security purposes adding that the police should be commended rather than being blamed for averting mayhem at the assembly on Tuesday.

“The House of Assembly have their own policemen deployed inside the premises but in the case of any suspected threat to lives and property we also deploy our own men atleast 500m from the premises and that was what we did.

“We were particular about preventing hoodlums from infiltrating the House of Assembly premises. I am not happy with the current happenings at the Assembly and I am hereby calling on all parties to work towards peace in the state.” Kimo explained.

The commissioner also debunked allegations of aiding lawmakers whose seats were declared vacant by Speaker Oniofok Luke to gain entrance into the chambers and advised the parties to use legal means to resolve the matter.

On the call by Governor Udom Emmanuel that he be redeployed, the commissioner maintained that he meant well for everybody and the state, adding that he would continue to execute his job professionally and to the best interest of the state and the nation.

“I will say again that I am pained by the crisis in the state and desirous of ensuring that peace prevails.I am a man of honour and integrity and will always ensure that I execute my jobs professionally.” He said.
