Parliamentary staff to shutdown NASS Dec 4 over salary arrears, promotion

By Jennifer Omiloli

Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN has resolved to halt activities of the National Assembly, starting from December, Tuesday 4 to Thursday 8, following the failure Management to address issues concerning salary arrears, promotion among other demands.

This was disclosed at the Association’s Emergency Congress held Thursday 29, where it stated that picketing of the National Assembly will commence between 8: a.m – 2: p.m daily, in a bid to get feedback on the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure, CONLESS.

This was contained in a communiqué signed by the Secretary General, PASAN, Suleiman Haruna, yesterday in Abuja. PASAN further issued a two-week ultimatum to NASS to fulfill its demands; or else, they will embark on strike.

The communiqué read in part, “The president of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives should take urgent steps to nominate the would-be members of NASS Service Commission for appointment.
“That all pending staff promotions and conversion letters be released with arrears due fully paid on or before Dec. 31,” among other requests.
