Erring corps members to face prosecution

By Emeka Samuel

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that any corp member involved in electoral malpractice would be prosecuted according to law.

It has therefore advised corps members that would be participating in the forthcoming general elections to remain neutral in their conduct.

Akwa Ibom Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Julius Amusan gave the advice during a-3 day training programme for corps members in Uyo on Saturday told them that they were chosen based on their supposed non-partisanship, stressing.

“The training is for corp members who have indicated interest to participate in the forthcoming elections. There are informations that you all need to know when you go to election. You need to be trained so that you can be on top of the job.

“NYSC is in collaboration with INEC at every orientation course. INEC use to come to NYSC camp to sensitise Corp Members on their obligations during elections. You will be taught on how to operate during elections. It is going to be a three days training programme.

“Being a Corp Member does not exempt you from prosecution if found on the wrong side of the law. If you commit a crime, you are going to answer for the crime.” Amusan said.

Speaking to newsmen, one of the participants, a Batch ‘A’ 2018 Corp Member, Miss Anuruo Immaculater Oluchi vowed to be neutral while carrying out her duties during the forthcoming general election.

“We were admonished by the state coordinator to do the right thing by being neutral as expected of us as Corp Members.

“He also made us to understand that the country has so much trust in us and that is why the INEC has decided to use Corp Members for this elections,” she said.

Also speaking, a Batch ‘C’ Corp Member who would take part in the elections, Mr Arowosafe Doyin said that they would remain law abiding and obey all instructions given to them by INEC.
