Don harps on enabling environment for nation’s Polytechnics to thrive

 Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Bells university of Technology, Ota, in Ogun, has stressed the need for the Federal Government to provide the enabling environment in terms of infrastructure development for nation’s Polytechnics to thrive. Ojediran made this known in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday in Ota . Our correspondent reports that the Senate, on Tuesday, passed a Bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun, to a Federal University of Technology.He spoke against the backdrop of the Bill passed by the Senate on Tuesday to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to a Federal University of Technology.According to him, the roles of Polytechnics could not be over emphasized as they contribute required man-power to national development.He said the decision by the Senate to convert the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to a Federal University of Technology is a welcome development as it will create more access for students from that area.The VC also called on the Federal Government to provide adequate security for tertiary institutions in order ensure safety of lives.Ojediran said that the gradually phasing out of Polytechnics is not good for the country as they have all the required experiences and skills to man equipment in industries.The VC lauded the Senate’s decision of upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to a Federal University of Technology, saying this will grant students more access to higher education.“This is a welcome idea in this era where students would not get enough admission and quota for their area,” he said.
