By Musa Isa Ahmed

The chairman governing board of Adamawa State university, Awwal D. Tukur has disclosed that the governor of Adamawa Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is poised to transform the institution to a world class status.

Tukur who made the position during a chat with newsmen Tuesday, thanked governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the support he has been given to the university which is responsible for the renewed stability and development being witnessed in the institution.

He also thanked the university staff for the immense support they are giving him culminating in the conduct of the first convocation in more than a decade.

Tukur noted that a lot of efforts and resources are being deployed in the areas of research, publications, and innovations geared to improve the university’s competitiveness and ranking despite being in a far plunged area of the country in the nearest future.

“Adamawa State university has been a relatively provincial university. We have been tucked away in one corner even though we are the first in the north east. Some universities that came up behind us are much better in ranking. We want our university to excel and be amongst the best,” he said.

He noted that to achieve that, the university is building a lot of infrastructure and also ensuring frugal use of its resources to built capacity of staff and provide a convivial atmosphere.

Tukur said that the governor has tasked the university to come up with practical innovations in the areas of agriculture, energy, power etc that will place the institution above peers, saying that the governor has promised to avail huge resources to any staff who successfully come up with new innovations.

” The governor is challenging us to come up with innovations and research, in practical areas not just theoretical.

“He is putting a special grant for research whereby any lecturer or staff of Adamawa state university that published a Q1 or Q2 journal researched based will get monetary award.

” Those Q1 and Q2 journals are not cheap and not easy to publish. They will have to make sure that your research is good before publishing it,” he said.
