Aubameyang Joins Olympique Marseille After Departure from Chelsea

Must read

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Gabonese striker, has officially made his move to the prestigious French Ligue 1 club, Olympique Marseille. The 34-year-old international player signed a notable three-year contract with the club, which will see him donning the Marseille colors until June 30, 2026.

Aubameyang’s football journey has seen him move between top clubs over the past few seasons. Last summer, he made the switch from FC Barcelona to Chelsea. However, his time at Stamford Bridge was marred by uncertainties as the coach who brought him to the club, Thomas Tuchel, was dismissed merely two months after Aubameyang’s arrival. Subsequent manager Graham Potter did not grant him regular playing time, leading to a less-than-ideal season for the talented striker.

Following this challenging season at Chelsea, the club decided to let him go for free this summer, merely one year after acquiring him for a transfer fee of €12 million.

Despite receiving interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, Aubameyang decided to pursue a move to Olympique Marseille, motivated by his desire to continue competing in top-flight football.

Shortly after the official announcement of his signing with Olympique Marseille, Chelsea released a statement acknowledging his departure from the club. In the four-paragraph statement, they thanked Aubameyang for his contributions during his time at Stamford Bridge. He made a total of 21 appearances for Chelsea across various competitions, scoring three goals. These goals came in a prolific ten-day period in October, as he found the net against Crystal Palace in the Premier League and netted in back-to-back Champions League group stage matches against AC Milan.

As Aubameyang begins a new chapter in his career with Olympique Marseille, Chelsea wished him well in his future endeavors. His transfer marks a significant move for both clubs and is sure to garner attention and anticipation for the upcoming season in French football.
