Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso updated fans on Victor Boniface ahead of the team’s Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow at the BayArena. Boniface recently experienced an unpleasant ordeal with the Nigeria national team during the international break. Libyan authorities treated the Super Eagles inhumanely before their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Boniface detailed the harsh treatment on social media, explaining how authorities forced the players to return to Nigeria before the scheduled match. He struggled to score in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last Friday, missing the chance to open his account for the Super Eagles due to the cancellation of the return leg.
Alonso confirmed that Boniface has trained well in preparation for the upcoming clash with Frankfurt. “We have spoken. What happened is not pleasant, but he has had enough time to train,” the Spanish coach said, as reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine.
The 23-year-old striker has started the season strongly, netting four goals and providing one assist in six Bundesliga matches. Alonso hopes Boniface can maintain his impressive form against Frankfurt, who currently sit ahead of Leverkusen in the table with 13 points, two more than the reigning German champions.
