Chelsea Pursue Victor Osimhen Transfer as Deadline Approaches

By Milcah Tanimu

Chelsea’s interest in Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, has intensified as the summer transfer window nears its end. The Nigerian forward, who was a standout in the 2022/23 Serie A season, is now at the center of a high-stakes transfer battle.

Arsenal, another Premier League contender, also covets Osimhen, seeing him as a key addition that could propel them to a Premier League title. Similarly, Chelsea views the striker as a crucial asset that could help them return to title contention. With Chelsea having recently thrashed Wolves 6-0, including a brace from Nicolas Jackson and a hat-trick from Noni Madueke, the addition of Osimhen could further enhance their attacking prowess, with Christopher Nkunku and Cole Palmer supporting him.

The primary hurdle for Chelsea has been Napoli’s steep asking price of over 100 million euros, coupled with Osimhen’s high wages. However, recent reports from Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol suggest that Chelsea may be in a better position to negotiate a deal. The sale of Romelu Lukaku to Napoli could facilitate Osimhen’s transfer, potentially easing Napoli’s need to retain him and accommodating his desire for a new challenge.

Chelsea has been strategically biding its time, waiting for Napoli to lower their demands as the transfer deadline looms. Although competition remains from Arsenal and potentially Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea’s persistence could pay off if they can secure Osimhen for their 2024/25 campaign.
