The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has raised an alarm about an alleged plot to arrest Hon. Ugochinyere Michael Ikeagwuonu, the lawmaker for Ideato Federal Constituency. Ugochinyere, known as Ikenga Imo, is CUPP’s spokesperson.
CUPP claims security agencies are working with a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to fabricate charges against Ugochinyere. They say this is an attempt to silence him because of his criticism of their alleged misconduct.
At a press conference in Abuja, CUPP leaders condemned the plot. They called it a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy. CUPP accused the pro-Wike faction of training fake witnesses for weeks. These witnesses are being prepared to testify falsely against Ugochinyere, accusing him of bribery, defamation, and treason.
CUPP argues that the plot targets Ugochinyere’s exposé on alleged land racketeering in the FCT. They claim the pro-Wike group is trying to stop him from revealing their illegal activities. The coalition called the scheme a “low-budget Nollywood production” that has already failed.
The plot is tied to Ugochinyere’s revelations about illegal land allocation, implicating members of the pro-Wike group. CUPP also accuses them of destabilizing Rivers State and hijacking PDP leadership.
CUPP vowed to resist the plot and warned that any harm to Ugochinyere will have consequences. The group promised to take legal action and organize public demonstrations. CUPP strongly supports Ugochinyere and condemned the involvement of security agencies in the plot. They will continue advocating for justice through legal and peaceful means, urging civil society and international observers to monitor the situation, as it threatens Nigeria’s democracy.
