Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has delivered a clear message to goalkeeper Andre Onana, urging him to “step up” following a less-than-stellar start with the Premier League club.
Ten Hag brought Onana to Manchester United during the summer to take over as the team’s number one goalkeeper, filling the void left by David de Gea whose contract had expired. Onana arrived in a £47.2 million deal from Inter.
While Onana has received praise for his distribution skills, he has faced criticism for errors in matches against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and Brentford.
Ten Hag is confident that Onana will find more consistency in his performances, saying, “For Andre, it’s essential to understand that we learn from our history, but we also live in the present and plan for the future. He must shape his future by delivering better performances.”
The manager expressed his belief in Onana’s abilities, citing his success at prominent clubs like Barcelona in his youth and his participation in the semi-final and final of the Champions League with Ajax and Inter, respectively. Ten Hag remains optimistic about Onana’s potential at Manchester United.
