Manchester United triumphed 2-1 over Rangers at Old Trafford in the Europa League group stage, with Bruno Fernandes scoring in stoppage time to secure the win. The game saw an own goal from Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland and a late equalizer by Cyriel Dessers.
The victory puts Manchester United in a strong position, climbing to fourth place in the group with 15 points. Manager Ruben Amorim praised his team’s resilience, despite the recent 3-1 loss to Brighton. He stressed that there’s room for improvement but valued the crucial late goal.
Despite the win, some pundits, including talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy, questioned United’s performance, suggesting they wouldn’t fare well against top Scottish teams. The match also featured a controversial VAR decision, disallowing Matthijs de Ligt’s goal, drawing criticism from former defender Rio Ferdinand.
United’s next challenge is against FC Steaua Bucuresti, as they aim for a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds.
