NDLEA Warns Travellers: Don’t Carry Bags You Didn’t Pack

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a fresh warning to air travellers, urging them to avoid carrying any luggage they did not personally pack or whose contents they do not fully know.

This caution was shared by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a public advisory posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

Babafemi’s alert came after a recent arrest at an airport involving a traveller caught attempting to smuggle drugs. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the bag in question did not belong to him but was given to him by someone else.

“Please listen to the suspect in this video. He admitted he did not pack the bag — someone handed it to him,” Babafemi wrote.

He emphasised that ignorance of a bag’s contents will not protect any traveller from arrest or prosecution if caught with illegal substances.

“As we always warn, never accept to carry a luggage you don’t know its contents. If you’re not complicit or an accessory, #ndlea_nigeria will get you,” he added.

The NDLEA urged all travellers to remain vigilant, take full responsibility for their belongings, and avoid becoming unwitting tools for drug traffickers.
