NYSC’s Nationwide Environmental Sanitation Exercise Holds on Saturday

By Sam Akanimo

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has designated Saturday, June 1, 2024 as a national environmental sanitation day.

In Akwa Ibom State, Corps members in the 31 local government areas of the state are expected to participate in the exercise at designated places.

In Uyo, the state capital, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, Okun Christopher, will lead his staff to monitor the exercise to ensure success.

Places to be captured in this all encompassing sanitation exercise in Uyo, the state capital include Plaza, Abak road by Ikot Okubo market, Akpan Andem market and Barracks road.

The national sanitation day was, however, instituted years ago because of the feelers that emanated from the reports of the various Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, HIRD, programmes carried out by the Corps medical team.

In those health outreaches, it was observed that most of the illnesses treated were as a result of dirty environments where our people operate.

So, as an agency that cares for the welfare of the citizens, NYSC is to embark on a national environmental sanitation exercise to help eradicate some of these illnesses.

NYSC says stakeholders and the members of the public will join in the exercise.
