Wrestling Federation Pushes for Rule Updates Ahead of Diri Classics

By   Milcah   Tanimu

With the 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics set to kick off in Yenagoa, the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has called on coaches and officials to stay informed on the latest rules governing the sport. This advice was highlighted during a technical meeting and clinic held in the Bayelsa State capital, where NWF’s Technical Director, Ohaike Darmian, stressed the importance of regular rule updates.

Darmian emphasized that wrestling policies and regulations must adapt continuously to global standards, urging officials to avoid complacency and embrace ongoing learning. “Sports policies are essential for ensuring safety, fairness, quality, and accountability, but they are not static and need updating to meet evolving challenges,” he noted.

NWF President Honourable Daniel Igali echoed this sentiment, advising officials to review current guidelines available on the United World Wrestling website and official magazines. Igali urged coaches to communicate these updated rules to athletes, ensuring they understand and apply them effectively.

The Federation’s leadership, including Vice President Chris Amkpila and Secretary General Mohammed Maigidansanma, is present to oversee the technical meeting and prepare for Tuesday’s schedule, which includes the Annual General Meeting and the first Junior/Cadet bouts in Greco-Roman, women’s, and freestyle wrestling.
