Zulum Promises Relief Support and Resettlement for Displaced Communities in Monguno

Babagana Umara Zulum has assured internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Monguno of immediate humanitarian assistance and long-term resettlement plans following recent insecurity in parts of the state.

The governor gave the assurance during a visit to displaced communities in Monguno on Sunday, where he interacted with affected families and assessed conditions at the IDP camp, according to a statement issued by his media aide, Abdulrahman Bundi.

Zulum said the state government, in collaboration with the Nigerian military, would provide urgent support in the areas of water, shelter, and sanitation for displaced residents. He also pledged sustainable solutions aimed at facilitating the safe and dignified return of affected persons to their ancestral communities.

“We will improve the living conditions of the displaced persons and ensure urgent government intervention,” the governor said.Zulum urged residents to support security agencies with timely information, stressing that maintaining peace requires collective responsibility.

The governor disclosed that more than 50,000 returnees are currently in Marte, adding that plans were underway to facilitate the return of more displaced persons.

During the visit, Zulum also met health workers at the Monguno Eye Hospital and announced financial support to improve staff welfare and healthcare delivery. He was accompanied by senior government officials and lawmakers, including Mohammed Tahir Monguno and Abdulkarim Lawan.
