Rapper Erigga Advocates for a Shift in Male Priorities, Encourages Men to Reconsider Pursuing Romantic Relationships

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Nigerian rapper Erigga has ignited a discussion on social media with his recent statement advising men to “stop chasing girls.” The controversial artist did not provide a specific reason for his counsel, but many speculate that economic concerns in Nigeria may be a significant factor behind his message.

Erigga’s remark coincides with a period of pronounced economic challenges in Nigeria. In the Nigerian context, “chasing girls” often involves spending money on romantic pursuits. His advice may be intended to prompt men to reevaluate their priorities and spending habits in light of the economic difficulties.

It’s worth noting that in 2022, Erigga, whose real name is Erhiga Agarivibie, had questioned the EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) regarding their 15-year jail term for landlords who rent houses to individuals involved in online fraud, known as Yahoo boys. This stance reflected his skepticism about the law and its application, drawing parallels with politicians who engage in similar fraudulent activities.

Furthermore, in 2021, Erigga had taken a swipe at social media users, accusing them of hypocrisy. He argued that many users engage in actions contrary to what they preach on social media platforms. According to the artist, a significant portion of social media users is guilty of this hypocrisy, often projecting a perfect image online while concealing their imperfections and contradictions.
