APC Issues Strong Warning Against Disrupting Tinubu’s US Visit

By  Milcah  Tanimu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a firm caution to those considering disrupting President Bola Tinubu’s upcoming appearance at the United Nations General Assembly later this month.

The APC’s US chapter has made it clear that any Nigerians planning to protest during President Tinubu’s visit will face legal consequences to the fullest extent of the law.

According to the APC, Nigerians residing in the US should be aware of a planned protest ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled appearance at the UN General Assembly on September 20.

President Tinubu’s proposed visit to the US has stirred mixed emotions, with some Nigerians in the diaspora expressing their intention to oppose his arrival.

In response to these concerns, the Chairman of the United States chapter of the APC, Prof. Tai Balofin, alleged that a suspended party member, Adesegun Labinjo, was orchestrating the rally.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the APC’s US chapter said, “We have recently learned of certain individuals’ plans to stage a rally during President Tinubu’s visit to the United Nations. This planned rally is a direct response to an event organized by a suspended individual, Mr. Labinjo, who claims to be the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, on September 20, 2023.”

“The potential consequences of Mr. Labinjo’s rally have raised concerns of possible disruption and disorder from those planning to tarnish the President’s reputation. In light of this situation, we want to inform the public and all concerned parties that we have promptly alerted the relevant authorities about this unnecessary and potentially disruptive plan.”

“Prof. Tai Balofin, Chairman of APC USA, has issued a stern warning to those contemplating disrupting any sideline events or President Tinubu’s visit. He underscores that individuals who violate the law will be subject to arrest and prosecution in accordance with the full extent of the legal framework.”

“We fully recognize and respect the principles of freedom of speech and association, which are fundamental to a democratic society. However, we urge all citizens to exercise these rights responsibly and in a manner that does not tarnish the President’s reputation.”

“It is important to remember that election results and legal proceedings have been settled, and it is time to accept the outcome gracefully. Another opportunity for political participation will arise in the upcoming 2027 elections, and individuals are encouraged to participate through legitimate means.”
