The Borno State Police Command has announced the arrest of eight individuals in connection with the suspected murder of University of Maiduguri lecturer, Kamar Abdulkadir.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Keneth, who spoke with the press via telephone on Monday, the lecturer was fatally attacked on Sunday within his office premises. The assailants reportedly stabbed him with a knife and struck him with a hammer.
Upon receiving the distress call, a police team was dispatched to the scene where the body of Dr. Abdulkadir was discovered. An immediate investigation was launched, resulting in the arrest of the eight suspects believed to be connected to the murder.
Keneth emphasized that the police are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged residents of the state and the university community to remain calm and carry on with their daily activities without fear.
Notably, the late lecturer’s vehicle was also reported missing from the scene, suggesting that it might have been taken by the assailants.
This incident has sparked concerns in the wake of previous attacks on academic staff, such as the reported killing of Professor Opeyemi Ajewole from the University of Ibadan in July 2023, underscoring the ongoing security challenges faced by universities in Nigeria.
