Tragedy as suspected assassin murders woman in Police Estate, Kurudu, Abuja

By Joyce Babayeju

Residents of Police Estate, Kurudu Abuja were Wednesday afternoon the 24th of April thrown into mourning as a middle age woman whose name was not immediately known was murdered in her home, number 5, Road 4 in the Estate.

It was reliably gathered that the woman must have been killed by an assassin who was reported to have been seen around the house shortly before the woman was discovered in a pool of her blood.

An eye witness account had it that the suspected assassin came to the house on a motorcycle popularly known as “rubber-rubber” packed in front of the house, moved around the vicinity before entering the house.

Further investigations revealed that the woman’s husband who is now a prime suspect in the case was the one who allegedly discovered the corpse of his wife as he returned home from an outing.

It was alleged that instead of raising the alarm, he decided to take the corpse of the woman away through the back door warning his children not to raise alarm also.

A resident of the Estate who spoke on condition of anonymity said that the security operatives in the Estate suspecting the husband’s movement, stopped him and when the car was searched, his wife’s corpse was found inside and that when he was detained amd questioned, he said that someone butchered his wife.

According to the resident, the woman’s husband was alleged to have strangely left.the gates to his house open while he claimed to be taking her daughter back to school on that Wednesday which made it possible for the suspected assassin to gain access into the house easily.

On what would have provoked the man to the extent of allegedly arranging for his wife’s murder, the resident said it may not be unconnected with an allegation that the wife found out since last year that he has been sleeping with her younger sister.

According to the source, it was further alleged that when confronted, the wife’s sister confirmed the relationship and vowed that she was not going to stop the relationship for any reason.

The matter was said to have been reported at the Police Division headquarters, Kurudu, Abuja while the corpse of the woman has been deposited at Asokoro General Hospital mortuary.

Three arrests have been made including the woman’s husband and a young man who was said to have lived with the couple sometime ago.

Although the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Kurudu Division has not made any statement on the matter, a senior police officer in the Division confirmed the incident saying that investigation into the matter is on going.

He said the police will not rest until the perpetrators of the heinous act were arrested and brought brought to book.

On security of the residents in the Estate, many of them who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Estate is porus due to the failure of the developers, Duedone Nigeria Limited who was alleged to have failed to construct a perimeter fence round the Estate even when he was alleged to have been paid for the job by the police authority.
