Kaduna Health Workers Commence Five-Day Warning Strike

Health workers in Kaduna State have begun a five-day warning strike, affecting several public hospitals where only doctors and laboratory technicians remain on duty.

The strike has led to the discharge of some patients from hospitals due to the absence of nurses to care for them.

In an interview in Kaduna on Monday, Ishaku Yakubu, the chairman of the National Association of Nurses and Midwives in the state, stated that the strike was initiated to address longstanding demands with the state government.

Mr. Yakubu highlighted issues such as the non-revision of salary structures since 2009 under the CONHESS system, despite promises made by the government since 2015. He also noted the delay in approving hazard allowances dating back to 2003, which had been sanctioned by the federal government.

The permanent secretary of the state Ministry for Health, Aishatu Mohamed-Saqid, is expected to provide an official response to the situation on Tuesday.
