Shehu Sani Claims Northern Protests Aimed at Overthrowing Tinubu Administration

By Milcah Tanimu

Senator Shehu Sani has alleged that the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in Northern Nigeria were not solely about economic hardship but were part of a broader attempt to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Sani criticized the protests, suggesting they were orchestrated with ulterior motives.

Sani claimed that the protests, which erupted in cities such as Kano, Jigawa, and Kaduna, lacked clear leadership and organization. He pointed out that, although economic difficulties are valid reasons for protest, the absence of structured leadership led to chaos, including attacks on public infrastructure and banks.

The Senator also alleged that there were instances of money being distributed to youths participating in the protests, and that some individuals were seen waving Russian flags. This, he argued, indicated that the protests were not purely about the removal of subsidies but rather part of a scheme to create instability and potentially overthrow the government.

“The protests were not just about economic reforms or subsidies; there was a deliberate effort to create an environment of anarchy and disorder,” Sani said. “The presence of Russian flags and the distribution of money suggest that there was a premeditated plan to undermine the government and sow chaos.”

Sani’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions and differing perspectives on the nature of the protests, highlighting the complex political dynamics at play in Nigeria.
