Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has urged the newly sworn-in executives of the Sokoto State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to consider their election into office as a clarion call to serve the entire state.

The governor made the appeal during the swearing-in ceremony of the new executives and the introduction of the 4th Assembly of the state chapter, which took place at the Sultan Macciɗo Institute for Qur’an and General Studies in Sokoto.

Governor Aliyu, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, emphasized the need for the newly elected leaders to be committed and dedicated in their roles as representatives of Sokoto youth. He urged them to prioritize the interests of those who elected them above their personal concerns, highlighting that sacrifice is key to successful leadership.

The governor reassured the new executives of the state government’s commitment to maintaining a youth-friendly environment and open-door policies.

He also commended the Sokoto State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, as well as the NYCN electoral committee, for their tireless efforts in ensuring the success of the election.

In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, described the inauguration of the two organizations as a symbol of renewed hope, commitment, and determination for the future of youth in Sokoto. He expressed appreciation for the maturity shown by the youth and the electoral committee, which facilitated the smooth emergence of the new executive members.

In his post-election speech, the new chairman of the Sokoto State chapter of NYCN, Comrade Isah Abdullahi Yabo, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s vision for a prosperous Sokoto State, particularly his focus on empowering the youth. Comrade Yabo pledged to advocate for policies that would empower young people to become agents of change.

He also seized the opportunity to appeal to the state government to revive the Sokoto Youth Development Centre, enabling the continued training of youth in various skill acquisition programs to promote self-reliance and reduce unemployment.
