Senator Gyan’s Advocacy Secures Approval for Akwanga-Jos Road Dualization

By Leo Zwañke, Lafia

The long-awaited approval for the dualization of the Akwanga-Jos road has sparked widespread commendation and optimism among stakeholders in the North-Central region. Senator I.D. Gyan of Plateau State has been praised for his persistent advocacy, which was instrumental in securing the project’s approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement on Saturday, Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, expressed gratitude to Senator Gyan for championing the cause and commended President Tinubu for addressing the region’s infrastructural needs.

“This much-needed project, once completed, will significantly enhance transportation and connectivity in the region,” Dr. Kassim said. “It marks a critical step toward improving safety, boosting the economy, and enhancing the well-being of affected communities.”

Dr. Kassim also underscored the project’s potential impact on regional security. “The dualization of this road will help alleviate insecurity from Akwanga to Sanga and surrounding forested areas. This is not just an infrastructure upgrade; it’s a lifeline for our people,” he noted.

Local residents and stakeholders have applauded President Tinubu for his responsiveness to the needs of the region. “Mr. President has demonstrated true leadership by listening to the voices of the people and taking action,” Dr. Kassim added.

The Akwanga-Jos road serves as a vital economic and social link between Plateau and Nasarawa states and other parts of the region. However, its single-lane design and poor condition have posed significant challenges to commuters, increasing transportation difficulties and exacerbating security concerns.

The dualization project is expected to address these issues by improving the movement of goods and people, reducing travel times, and curbing criminal activities often associated with isolated or poorly maintained roads.

Stakeholders have called for the swift commencement and completion of the project to ensure its promised benefits are realized. “We eagerly await the execution of this project and the positive transformation it will bring to our region,” Dr. Kassim emphasized.
