Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has ordered security forces to secure the unharmed release of Justice Ebieyerin Omukoro, a high court judge abducted by gunmen in Yenagoa on Saturday.
Addressing Sagbama residents during his local government thank-you tour on Monday, Diri cautioned criminals and their backers, emphasizing the state’s advanced security measures, including CCTV cameras that captured the kidnappers.
He assured that investigations would expose those responsible.
“I summoned security commanders immediately after the judge’s kidnapping and directed them to ensure her safe return,” Diri stated.
“Criminals must know our CCTV systems are active, and there’s no hiding.”
Diri thanked Sagbama for their steadfast support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 11, 2023 governorship election, which secured his re-election.
He urged Sagbama and Ekeremor in Bayelsa West senatorial district to maintain peace and unity.
Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo hailed Sagbama as the PDP’s heartland, crediting their massive votes—termed ‘Kano votes’—in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
He lauded former governor and Senator Seriake Dickson for choosing Diri and thanked Sagbama for backing the Prosperity Government.
Lawmakers, including Dr. Frederick Agbedi (Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency), Dr. Godbless Oyinke (Sagbama Constituency 1), Lt. Col. Bernard Kenebai (rtd) (Constituency 2), and Hon. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown (Constituency 3), praised Diri for infrastructure progress, notably the Sagbama-Ekeremor road.
They appealed for action on the stalled Abuetor-Elemebiri-Asamabiri road project.
At the palace of the Pere of Kumbowei Kingdom, King Boloyi Sufadoh, Diri and Ewhrudjakpo were honored with walking sticks, hats, and Holy Bibles.
