WAFCON 2025: Rampant Super Falcons Crush Zambia 5–0 to Reach Semifinals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a dominant performance to book their place in the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), thrashing Zambia’s Copper Queens 5–0 in a quarter-final clash.

The Falcons got off to a dream start as Osinachi Ohale rose highest to nod in Esther Okoronkwo’s cross just two minutes into the game.

Despite a spirited response from Zambia, led by captain Barbara Banda, Nigeria doubled their lead in the 33rd minute. Okoronkwo turned scorer this time, expertly controlling a pinpoint cross from Rasheedat Ajibade before slotting home with composure.

On the brink of halftime, Chiwendu Ihezuo pounced on a defensive error to net Nigeria’s third goal — her third of the tournament — putting her in strong contention for the Golden Boot.

Zambia briefly held possession in the second half, but Nigeria remained solid at the back and continued to press forward.

In the 68th minute, Tosin Demehin headed in another well-delivered cross from Okoronkwo to make it 4–0.

The rout was completed in the 90th minute when Folashade Ijamilusi finished off a slick move, smashing in Ajibade’s assist to seal a comprehensive win.

Coach Justine Madugu’s side will now face the winner of the South Africa vs Senegal quarterfinal in the semifinals on Tuesday.
