Professor Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Usman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has voluntarily resigned from office, effective Monday, February 9, 2026.
In a statement released Tuesday evening in Kaduna, Prof. Usman said the decision was made for personal reasons after careful reflection and consultation with his family. He emphasised that the resignation does not reflect any dissatisfaction with the Commission, the government, or its mandate.“
I announce my resignation from the office of Chairman and CEO of NAHCON, effective February 9, 2026, entirely for personal reasons. I made this choice in good conscience and with profound respect for the sacred responsibilities of public service,” the statement read in part.
Prof. Usman expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust and honour of appointing him to serve Nigeria and the Muslim ummah. He also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the NAHCON Board, the Commission’s management and staff, state pilgrims’ welfare agencies, tour operators, aviation service providers, and partners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their collaboration.
He prayed for continued guidance for the government, the new leadership of NAHCON, and future pilgrims, asking Allah (SWT) to accept the efforts of all involved and grant pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur.
