By Joyce Remi- Babayeju

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nysom Wike has expressed happiness over the 70% completion of Airport – Kuje – Gewagwalada road projects.

Wike expressed optimism that the road projects linking the Abuja, Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada will be delivered at the real-time.

The minister who spoke on Wednesday after the projects inspection disclosed that the projects have reached near completion for inauguration by June 2026.

The highlighted the vital role of the road network which aims to provide a direct link between the airport and satellite towns with less travel time for residents.

The Minister confirmed that the Airport to Kuje road, which is critical stretch has exceeded 70% completion.

Commenting on the Kuje – Gwagwalada road network, he revealed that work on the section is currently estimated at nearly 65% completion, adding that travelers moving between Gwagwalada and the city center bypass the main airport road entirely, easing traffic congestion.

The minister also commended the dedication of the contractors—Arab Contractors for the Airport–Kuje axis and Gilmore Engineering for the Kuje–Gwagwalada dualization.

“I am quite impressed. You know that the Airport to Kuje road is one road that is very key for us. Then from Kuje to Gwagwalada, the last time I was there… we were well impressed with the level of work done”, he stated.

The minister also assured residents that the project remains a priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a target inauguration date set for the first week or end of June.

The Airport–Kuje road project, originally awarded in 2019, had suffered years of delays before being revived by the current FCT administration.

Furthermore, the FCTA recently disclosed a compensation package of N1.1 billion for properties affected by the construction to ensure work continues without further issued.
