Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime has formally assumed office as the eighth substantive Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, following the exit of Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman.The assumption of duty took place at the institution’s main campus in Lokoja, according to a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale.
Addressing staff and students, Prof. Avidime called for cooperation and unity, pledging to consolidate and sustain the achievements recorded by the outgoing administration. He expressed appreciation to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Barrister Sani Momoh Shaibu, and his predecessor for their roles in advancing the institution.The new Rector cautioned against rumours and actions capable of undermining progress, stressing his commitment to building on existing structures and legacies.
Earlier, the outgoing Rector, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, thanked the state government for the opportunity to serve and for his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. He said the support of government, management, staff, and students helped reposition the polytechnic for sustainable development.
Barrister Shaibu urged both the outgoing and incoming Rectors to ensure positive legacies in their respective assignments and assured the new Rector of the council’s continued support.The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from Nasarawa State University, senior management staff, academic board members, students, and other stakeholders.
