The in has recorded a fresh wave of defections in Ukwa East Local Government Area, strengthening its prospects of retaining power beyond 2027.
Among those who defected are the immediate past Deputy Chairman of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Rowland Omoni, and the former Special Adviser on Agriculture to the immediate past governor of the state, Hon. Israel Bethel. They joined the party alongside their supporters.
The defectors were received by the Chairman of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Chibunna Akara, who described them as valuable assets to the party. He commended their decision to align with the administration of Governor .
Also speaking at the event, the Member representing Ukwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, expressed confidence that the recent wave of defections to the Labour Party signals a sustained political realignment in support of the governor’s administration.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Rowland Omoni said their decision to join the party was motivated by what he described as the visible achievements and transformative leadership of Governor Otti. He added that the move reflects their collective resolve to contribute meaningfully to his re-election in 2027.
