Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Daughter Purity Lead Girls Tag: Advancing Women’s Empowerment Through Period Care

Across Nigeria, conversations about gender equality and women’s empowerment are gaining momentum. One area that has long been overlooked is menstrual health—a subject often treated with silence and stigma. Now, with the launch of Girls Tag, Nigeria’s first all-in-one period care kit, that silence is being broken. At the forefront of this groundbreaking initiative are actress and philanthropist Mercy Johnson-Okojie and her daughter Purity Okojie, who have been unveiled as co-brand ambassadors.

Girls Tag is more than a product—it is a movement that recognizes menstrual health as a cornerstone of women’s empowerment. By providing young girls with the tools and knowledge they need to manage their periods confidently, Girls Tag ensures that no girl is held back from school, community participation, or personal growth because of menstruation.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie explained why the initiative resonates deeply with her: “As a mother, I want my daughter to step into womanhood without fear or embarrassment. Girls Tag is doing exactly that—helping families replace shame with pride and confusion with confidence.”

Her daughter Purity represents the authentic voice of young girls across Nigeria, showing that empowerment begins at home. Together, their partnership reflects the importance of family support in advancing gender equality.

A unique feature of the Girls Tag kit is Mercy’s newly authored book, “Youberty”, a puberty guide for boys and girls aged 10–13. By including this book in every pack, Girls Tag ensures that education reaches homes and schools, helping children understand their bodies and embrace healthy habits. This educational component is critical in breaking down barriers and fostering equality between boys and girls.

The kit itself is thoughtfully curated to meet practical needs. It contains premium sanitary pads in multiple sizes, overnight period pants, panty liners, disposable bags for safe disposal, and a stylish carrying pouch. These items make it easier for girls to manage their periods with dignity, ensuring that menstruation does not become a barrier to education or opportunity.

Eddie Madaki and Oche Ejiga of iBlend Services, the regional agency for Girls Tag, emphasized the empowerment angle: “Mercy and Purity’s voices are genuine. Their journey together mirrors the experiences of countless Nigerian families, making them the perfect ambassadors for Girls Tag. This initiative is about more than products—it is about giving girls the confidence to thrive.”

Girls Tag will be available nationwide in Q2 2026, through retail outlets, pharmacies, and malls, as well as direct sales via the official website and social media handle @girlstag.ng.

With Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Purity leading the charge, Girls Tag is more than a brand—it is a women’s empowerment movement. It is about breaking barriers, normalizing menstrual health, and ensuring that every girl grows up with pride, knowledge, and the confidence to pursue her dreams.
