By Muhammad Ibrahim,Sokoto

The chairman Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Senator Ibrahim Gobir challenged Federal Government to as a matter of urgency deploy more security personnels in the banditry areas of Sokoto east and northwest in particular.

Engineer Gobir threw the challenge when a team of members of the Correspondent chapel paid him Sallah homage at his residence of Runjin Sambo in Sokoto metropolis.

He said issue of rape, kidnapping and banditry are challenges that involve the society that need immediate intervention.

He was optimistic that with sincere dedication to service and peaceful leaving, banditry would become a history in Nigeria as a whole.

“They have caused havoc to families, instigate fear to communities especially in the northern part of the country.”

He blamed traditional institutions for attacks and therefore should be investigated.

“The military and the government are doing what was expected of them and called for commendation, but then there are unpatriotic elements that are sabotaging the efforts, governments to as a matter of urgency investigate and bring them to book for lawful actions.

” It is very worrisome, this banditry activities could lead to famine, poverty as farmers are regularly killed while in their farmlands, look, there is a village where no single chicken is left as a result of banditry, how on earth can this people survive? how can they look back and forget what has happened to their families, their agro produces? They certainty would seek for retaliation and would not help secure humanity and an end to banditry “, he cried.

Military and the government are doing what was expected of them, but do those out there confronting bandits have modern equipments to face the bandits? are they receiving their regular allowances, what assurances do their families have when being killed?
