Kogi NAWOJ Returns Anne Olurinde As State Chairperson

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kogi state Chapter, has re-elected Mrs Anne Olurinde of the State Information Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), as its chairperson for another three-year tenure.

Olurinde defeated her sole opponent in the race, Mrs Debra Samuel-Iyiola of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), with 33 to 20 votes in the keenly contested election held at NUJ press Centre, Lokoja.

Amongst other officials inaugurated by the NAWOJ Vice President, Zone D, Jamila Abubakar includes, Joyce Haruna of Radio Nigeria, Prime FM,  Vice chairperson and Rabi Jibo of Radio Kogi as Secretary.

Others are Faith Abraham of Graphic Newspaper as Assistant Secretary, Grace Oguche of Information Chapel as Treasurer; Halima Isa of Radio Kogi as Financial Secretary and Stella Edoka of Radio Nigeria, Prime FM as Auditor respectively.

The chairman of the state council of N.U.J, Alhaji Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh, who served as the returning officer of the contest announced the return of Mrs. Anne Olurinde as the state Chairperson of NAWOJ.

Momoh-Jimoh charged NAWOJ members to shun all forms of bitterness and acrimony and work towards the development of the union.

Alhaji Ali Atabor, a National Trustee of the NUJ  called on elected leaders to endear themselves to  members. “Winners, be magnanimous while losers should not take it with bitterness because there’s always another day”.

In her post election speech, the state Chairperson, Mrs Anne Olurinde said the new executive would ensure that the association would be more vibrant and its presence better felt in the state.

“With the opportunities and challenges that come with our acceptance to serve, we are of the believe that this second journey will be eventful at the end of our tenure”, she promised.

Olurinde also promised that the new executive members would continue to partner with NUJ saying “when a head is separated from the body, the body automatically becomes lifeless.”
