Baroni Defends Dele-Bashiru’s Performance in Lazio’s Defeat to Roma

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Lazio manager Marco Baroni has defended Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru following his underwhelming performance in the 2-0 defeat against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. The loss saw Lazio trailing by two goals at halftime, with Baroni making two substitutions, including Dele-Bashiru’s removal from the game.

Roma took the lead early with goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Alexis Saelemaekers, both within the first 20 minutes. Dele-Bashiru struggled in midfield, losing possession multiple times and failing to create impactful plays. He was dispossessed three times, managed just one shot, and completed only one key pass during his time on the field.

Despite Dele-Bashiru’s lack of impact, Baroni emphasized that the midfielder should not bear the brunt of the blame. He defended the Super Eagles player, stating that he was still in the process of development. Baroni explained, “Dele is a guy we are building. The lower he starts, the better he works. This defeat was not his fault. Today, he lacked rhythm.”

Baroni’s comments reflect his belief in Dele-Bashiru’s potential and a commitment to his growth within the squad. The manager urged patience as the Nigerian international continues to adjust and develop in the team.
