Major Shake-Up as Sports Commission Reassigns 57 Federation Secretaries

By Abigail Philip David

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the reassignment of 57 Secretary-Generals and officers across various National Sports Federations in a strategic move to revamp the sports sector.

This development was announced on Friday in Abuja by Olumide Bamiduro, Director of the Federation of Elite Athletes at the NSC. Bamiduro confirmed that the reassignments have already been implemented, affecting 57 Secretary-Generals and five additional officers.

According to Bamiduro, the decision aligns with the vision of NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director-General Bukola Olopade to rejuvenate the sports industry.

“The mandate is clear. These changes are necessary to deliver results and position the industry to attract private and corporate investments, ultimately driving the growth of our sports economy,” Bamiduro stated.

He also revealed that the NSC has instructed the Federation Establishment and Appointment Department to enforce the new postings, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to strengthening the efficiency and performance of sports federations nationwide.

“The newly assigned officials are expected to play vital roles in steering the sports sector towards innovation, grassroots and elite athlete development, and economic growth,” he added.

Sports federations affected by the reshuffle include Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Wrestling, among others.

This restructuring is part of broader efforts to enhance the management and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s sports industry.
