Ogbus Signs New Deal with Freiburg Amid EPL Interest

By  Milcah   Tanimu

SC Freiburg has announced that dual-national central defender Bruno Ogbus has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract. While the exact duration of the contract has not been disclosed, the announcement highlights the club’s intention to retain the talented player.

Ogbus, who impressed during pre-season matches against SCR Altach, RC Strasbourg, and SpVgg Greuther Fürth, was promoted to Freiburg’s first team ahead of the current season. The Switzerland U20 international, of Nigerian descent, made his professional debut in a DFB-Pokal match against VfL Osnabrück on August 17, followed by his Bundesliga debut against VfB Stuttgart on the opening day of the season.

Despite attracting significant interest from English clubs Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, Freiburg firmly stated that Ogbus was not for sale during the summer transfer window. Both clubs continue to monitor the Swiss-Nigerian defender for potential future transfers.

Additionally, AC Milan attempted to sign Ogbus before the start of the season, but Freiburg rejected an offer in the low single-digit million range. Since joining SC Freiburg from FC Zürich’s youth academy in January 2022, Ogbus has been included in the squad for every match this season, featuring in three of them.
