FCT Minister admonishes public officials to uphold discipline in office, shun compromise

Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has admonished public officials in the FCTA to uphold discipline and remain focused while discharging the their official duties.

 Bello make this call at the closing ceremony of the 3 day  retreat for political appointees of the FCTA, in Abuja.

 The Minister said, “Public office, requires tremendous amount of discipline and as political office holders, you will find that most of that discipline has to come from your inner self.”

He also admonished them to be able to shun pressures from relations and associates to compromise their integrity and flaunt public service rules especially in procurement processes and the acceptance of gifts.

 Bello urge the officers to open gift registers to document all gifts offered, received and by whom in full compliance with the extant rules and regulations, adding that
they their actions are liable to the law while in public office.

The Chief of Staff to the Minister, Malam Bashir Mai Bornu encouraged the political appointees to re –affirm their commitment to the FCT Administration and the FCT Minister in the discharge of their responsibilities.

  FCTA Permanent Secretary, Mr Olusade Adesola said that the retreat provided a leveling ground for participants interaction and to further equip them for  more efficient and effective service delivery.

Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr Shehu Hadi Ahmed noted that the retreat had immensely benefitted his organisation, as presentations from resource persons had further built the capacity of government officials, leading to a better understanding of what to do in situations such as procurement in emergency situations, variations in contract execution amongst others.

 The Director, Department of Human Resources Management of the FCTA, Dr Bashir Mohammed said that after the retreat the Administration expects to see improved changes in the conduct and performance of  officials.

.The lead consultant to the retreat Prof Olusegun Olasope commended the FCT Administration for its efforts in building the capacity of its officials and expressed optimism that in the coming months positive changes should be expected from the officials in the discharge of their responsibilities.

 The retreat closed presentation of certificates to participants.
