Nigerian Singer Mohbad Passes Away at Age 27

By Milcah  Tanimu

In a tragic turn of events, Nigerian singer Mohbad has passed away at the age of 27. According to a source from Mohbad’s team, the artist had sought medical treatment on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, for an infection resulting from an injury. Following his hospital visit, he received an injection and unfortunately lost consciousness shortly afterward, failing to regain consciousness.

The news of Mohbad’s untimely death sent shockwaves throughout social media, with colleagues and fans expressing their grief over the loss of the talented singer, whose last EP was released in June 2023.

A statement released on Mohbad’s official Twitter account confirmed the tragic news, stating, “It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023. Mohbad was a light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at peace.”

Mohbad, also known as Imole, gained significant popularity in 2020 with his hit song “Ko Po Ke.” In 2019, the rising star signed with Marlian Records, which is headed by Naira Marley. However, he encountered disputes over royalties and departed from the label in 2022. His legal team asserted that his departure was a result of alleged orchestrated attacks against him, reportedly by Naira Marley.

It’s worth noting that Mohbad attempted suicide earlier in 2023 due to his struggles with Marlian Records. Bella Shmurda revealed this during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo. According to Bella Shmurda’s account, Mohbad had tried to jump off a balcony to take his own life, which was thankfully prevented by his girlfriend.

Mohbad’s passing has left the public in mourning, and both fans and fellow celebrities have taken to social media to pay tribute to the rising star, whose music had made a significant impact on the Nigerian music industry during his short but impactful career.
