Akwa Ibom to Replicate Songhai Farm Model in Mkpat Enin

By Ogenyi Ogenyi, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom state government has announced its plans to establish a model palm oil mill based on the Songhai Farms in Benin Republic in the Mkpat Local Council of the state.

Speaking at the 75th birthday celebration of Dr. John Okoriko, Founder/President of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, Governor Umo Eno disclosed that the proposed mill would be situated at Genevito Farm. This farm, cultivated by Okoriko, boasts over 4,000 palm trees sprawling across 75 acres of land.

Governor Eno emphasized that the mill’s establishment would create employment opportunities for rural residents, consequently enhancing their local economy in alignment with the A-R-I-S-E agenda of the state government.

“Apostle Okoriko, I appreciate your multifaceted contributions to the community. Your actions extend beyond preaching the gospel; you actively participate in projects that benefit the people,” Governor Eno acknowledged.

He continued, “Moreover, you openly supported me during our campaign, showing unwavering dedication when others merely offered sycophantic support. I’ve come here to express my gratitude for your genuine support.”

Governor Eno commended Okoriko’s 49 years of consistent and courageous preaching in the Akwa Ibom language, making the message accessible to the local population. He assured, “I will support your efforts to build the church. As a pastor and governor, it’s my duty to reciprocate the support you provided during my election.”

In response, Okoriko recounted his steadfast missionary work despite opposition, persecution, and various challenges, focusing on his vision. “My vision is to construct our National Convention Structure, estimated to cost millions of naira, with the multitude of followers the Lord has blessed me with. I will also continue to evangelize worldwide to fulfill my divine mandate of winning souls for Christ,” he asserted.

The cleric shared his upbringing, which involved observing his father engaged in farming, a practice he continued alongside his missionary calling. Okoriko also mentioned his successful cultivation of over 4,000 stands of improved palm seedlings, achieved with the consultation of experts and the National Institute For Oil Palm Research (NIFOR).
